The weather forecast was rather glum for the big Armed Forces Day Show, and I think that kept some away, which is a shame because it really didn’t rain that much, certainly less than last year. There is no doubt that the greatly expanded number of flamethrower demonstrations was extremely popular, as the grandstands were crowded or full for each one of them. Flame-master Charlie Hobson added a number of new wrinkles to the show, including a two-man simultaneous firing segment, and a night shooting. The other big public draw, the Huey was also on station, flying often on Saturday.

If it appears that every year you go back to Findlay there are more vendors, you are not mistaken. There has literally been a 10% increase in vendors every year for the past five years, and that trend continued this year. Previously unused buildings were open and stocked with vendors, while there were also more vendors in new outside spaces too.

The Findlay Show is always a great time, no matter the weather, and this year’s less than optimum conditions didn’t seem to stop anyone from having fun. When it comes down to it, trucks are cool, but it’s more about the people you get to spend time with than the vehicles you get to see.
