About Us

Chuck started building engines in 1957 while still a student at Mackenzie High.  After graduation in 1959 he started working full time.   He worked at Wolverine Motors in Detroit where his friend and mentor, Lefty Straub, taught him the ins and outs of the engine business.   In 1972 Chuck's Engine Exchange opened its doors.   Today, it is still a small family run business, however Chuck has now retired and has turned the business over to his children.   Chuck's love of the old classic engines still continues today, with all his knowledge and skill having passed to his son Rick who specializes in the street rod end, but can still build a mean Flathead Ford.   With the death of Chuck's wife Carol in 2009, daughter Donna now manages the office, and still chases parts, and delivers engines.   The dedication to quality carries on throughout the rest of the shop, and we are happy to say that our staff has remained consistent for almost 15 years.   Lonnie runs the engine head department and has been with us for 34 years, while Dan handles the block boring and milling, and has just marked his 14th year with the company.   Let Chuck's build an engine for you, and discover the quality and craftsmanship that comes from years of experience and dedication.
